Workshop on Computation: Theory and Practice

Computation should be a good blend of theory and practice. Researchers in the field should create algorithms to address real world problems putting equal weight to analysis and implementation. Experimentation and simulation can be viewed as yielding to refined theories or improved applications.
WCTP 2020 is the tenth workshop organized by the Tokyo Institute of Technology, The Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research-Osaka University, University of the Philippines-Diliman and De La Salle University-Manila that is devoted to theoretical and practical approaches to computation. It aims to present the latest developments by theoreticians and practitioners in academe and industry working to address computational problems that can directly impact the way we live in society.
WCTP 2020 will feature presentations of prominent researchers as well as presentations of research papers selected by members of its Program Committee who come from highly distinguished institutions in Japan and the Philippines. Their expert knowledge and years of research experience will certainly provide high quality reviews that future submissions can benefit from.

Networks, Deep Learning (and COVID-19)

Networks (graphs) are present in the everyday life of many people. Recently, deep learning brought drastic performance improvements especially in the field of image recognition and natural language processing. I will introduce Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), deep learning-based methods that operate on graph domains. There are many challenges in applying GNNs to real-world problems. Some of our attempts for making GNNs powerful for realistic problems will be explained, such as fast approximations of network centrality, GNNs for graphs containing missing features, and GNNs for diagnosing brain disorders from fMRI data.

The WCTP 2020 program will consist of invited talks by prominent researchers and contributed talks from submitted papers selected by the Program Committee. All sessions will be devoted to original research. Major topics of the workshop include, but are not limited to, the followings:
Submissions related to the topics of the workshop are very much welcome. Submissions that relate results from other areas to the workshop topics are also encouraged. There are two types of submissions: full paper submissions and work-in-progress talk. If you submit your paper as a full paper, you are welcome to use the ACM template files; a standard paper is considered to be a minimum of five pages in length in the ACM conference double-column format. If you submit your work as a work-in-progress talk, please submit its abstract.
WCTP 2020 will not accept any paper which, at the time of submission, is under review for or has already been published or accepted for publication in a journal or another conference. Authors are also required not to submit their papers elsewhere during WCTP 2020 review period.

Authors of selected papers from WCTP 2020 will be invited to submit an extended and improved version to special issue in the Philippine Computing Journal or Philippine Information Technology Journal.There is no registration fee of the conferece; you must register with the Computing Society of the Philippines (CSP) if you are not a member of CSP. Researchers residing outside the Philippines will be able to pay via PayPal for the registration fee of CSP.
